Ping for Data

1 point, added 11/02/2010 by kittykat558@gmail.com

What would be great is if you could make cell phone apps (iphone or android— my vote for android since that’s what I use) that actually makes it ping you for data. Explanation: in statistics, participation bias is one of the most common and burdening skewer of data. In example, if you are looking at a blog site for a political candidate, people who post there are generally only those who feel strongly one way or another about the person (generally negatively) and very few feel moderately since they wouldn’t have the drive to take the time out of their day to post about their feelings. The relativity to this application is that I would most likely only get on the site and post my feelings during the day if I was very strongly feeling one metric or another. This would skew the data. What I need is something that randomly pings me during the day and asks me to input the data as I’m feeling right then. The random selection of times eliminates the bias. It also keeps people consistently adding data since they don’t need to remember to go to the site (or even to the app on their phone) to log things.

This would be a critical usefulness that I’d ever be willing to pay for since I am very serious about my tracking systems.
